Lily of the valley bloomed in my garden

The lily of the valley has begun to bloom finally in the garden of my home.
The flowering of this year is a little later than usual because of a heavy snow at the February of this year.

peony, the King of Flowers

The peony originates from China. 

It is thought that the plant was introduced to Japan in the early 8the century.

This flower is likened to "the king of flowers", because of its gorgeous form and beauty.

Tiny but beautiful bloom

If I'm not mistaken, this is called Fude-Lindou (筆竜胆） in Japanese. Binomial name is Gentiana zollingeri Fawcett. It is an annual plant and one of species in Genus of Gentiana. The plant is distributed widely in Japan, Korean Peninsula, North-eastern part of China and Sakhalin in Russia. Hight of this plant is 10 to 15 cm at most, and diameter of flower is 1.5 to 2.0 cm. Flowering time is beginning of April to middle of April at the local area where I live.　 I found this flower by chance when I took a stroll in the park in my neighbourhood.

Koinobori and cherry blossoms

In Japan, there is a traditional culture that Koinobori, meaning "carp streamer" in Japanese, will be hoisted like windsocks at the house front to celebrate Children's Day.

Spring has gone and Summer has come in Okinawa

Sky, clouds, water and sandy beach, all of these were color of summer, and , sea breeze was so refreshing.

I stayed in Okinawa few days to enjoy the festival called Ryukyu KAIEN-SAI （琉球海炎祭） which was held in Ginowan city (宜野湾市） last Saturday.
It is a summer festival which is to be held earliest in Japan. And, the summer season of Okinawa is to be started by this festival. The most attractive event in the festival was fireworks.
I enjoyed that fireworks of 10,000 shots drew beautiful floral patterns in the night sky.

about Nirin-sou

I'd like to tell you about Nirin-sou (or called wind-flower in English) in the botanical approach today.

This flower is called "Nirin-sou" in Japanese that is one of species in genus of Anemone. The scientific name is anemone flaccida.
As for the characteristic of this plant, two flowers bloom at the same time from one stem.　In other words, the most of this plant grows two flower stalks ( or scapes) from one stem as you can see in the image.

image on right : up-closed image of Nirin-sou. Diameter of this flower is 2 cm at most, and it has five pieces of white sepals which look like petals. This plant has no petal that is another characteristic of this plant.

The flowering time will be end of March to beginning of April in the local area where I live.

There was a grand piano in the exhibition hall. Pictures were reflected beautifully on a top board of the grand piano. I tried to take a shot at the symmetrical composition with upper and lower side.

Cherry tree over 100 years old

This weeping cherry tree is estimated to be over 100 years old. Many aged people visit there for flower viewing, and they wish to share a long life with this long-lived tree.

Flowering of fairies

The picture was taken in a colony of Katakuri which means dogtooth violet. Several thousand flowers of dogtooth violet bloomed on a slope of hill. Flowering time of the dogtooth violet is nearly same time as cherry blossoms in the local area where I live. So we can enjoy both cherry blossom viewing and dogtooth violet at same time. Each flower of dogtooth violet seems like a small fairy.

the tree of resurrection

There is an old tree of Kobushi Magnolia in my neighbourhood. It is said that the  tree was struck by lightning long time ago and damaged in half of a trunk of the tree.  People thought the tree died at that time. However,  the tree began to grow new branches in spring of the following year. The tree was thought to be dead but it was revived. Since people came to believe that the God dwells in this tree, therefore, the tree has been worshipped as a sacred tree, and it Is referred to as the tree of resurrection.　The tree blooms a lot of beautiful flowers every year as shown in this photo.
